Sadly the new ownership of our beloved Emighs hardware has changed significantly. The corporate acquisition by the Crown Ace group has created a sterile shopping environment with less help on the floor, many of the regular helpful, kind employees gone and those remaining trying to remain cheerful but you can see the change has been hard. I will return 1 more time to see if it improves but I'm doubtful. What was once a destination may not be anymore. Yet again corporate America ruins a family run businesses whose atmosphere made us want to return again and again. You can't put a price on that warm friendly, helpful feeling I for over 20 years had experienced at Emighs. Why change something that wasn't broken, Corporate America obviously isn't getting the message.

I believe this is the best hardware store in Northern California. Whether you need some random nut and bolt that nobody has, or if you need pointers on a project you’re working on, nobody comes close to their level of excellent customer service. To top it off, during check out, they have an awesome selection of classic drinks in glass bottles, and don’t forget to grab one of their excellent pies on the way out for dessert!

That says everything you need to know about this Sacramento institution. This isn't just a hardware store—it's a cornerstone of our community. While big box stores have come and gone, Emigh has remained constant, providing the kind of knowledgeable, personalized service that's nearly impossible to find anymore. The staff actually knows what they're talking about, can help you solve problems, and treats you like a neighbor, not a transaction. Walking through those doors brings back memories of my father patiently teaching me about tools and home repair. Now I'm the one bringing the next generation here, continuing a family tradition that spans decades. That kind of loyalty isn't given lightly—it's earned through consistent quality, fair prices, and genuine care for customers. If you want faceless efficiency, go to a chain store. If you want expert advice, quality products, and to support a true Sacramento legacy, Emigh Hardware is the only choice. Here's to another 60 years!

Emigh is the complete opposite of a Lowe’s or Home Depot. Their inventory is thoughtfully curated with useful and unique things. They have a large selection of cards and gifts that you don’t see everywhere. The staff is friendly and helpful. We are so lucky to have this store in our community.

Ace Hardware is actually a super underated hardwear store imo. Its smaller then the big box stores obviously but the customer service is honestly so much better, like someone actually comes up and helps you right away which is refreshing. The prices are abit higher then Home Depot but you pay for the convienence and the personalized service. They dont have the same huge selection but for everyday home repair stuff they usualy have exactly what you need. Overall id give it a 4/5, its a great option when you dont wanna deal with the craziness of a big box store.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
