Benge's Ace Hardware sucks. I live in the Irvington area. So, it would be nice if I could travel only 4 blocks to find my hardware essentials. However, they never have what I need. I now only go there when I absolutely need something. Then I usually don't find what I need. At that point I have to decide whether I have the time to go to Home Depot to find what I need or purchase something that might work from Ace. Today I only need a couple, as in 2, small galvanized steel screw-in hooks that I could use to hang a couple Christmas lights from my porch ceiling. Ace didn't have those. They did have a package of 50 brass screw-in hooks that were smaller that I wanted. Since I didn't have the time to go to Home Depot (several miles away), I bought what they had. Luckily my partner was able to find a couple hooks that I needed in our basement. So, I'm going to return the 50 brass hooks that I didn't want. Ever since Ace changed ownership their supply of stock sucked! If you only need a simple hook for hanging things or a screw less faceplate for a light switch, travel the extra miles to Home Depot. You won't find it at Ace Hardware on North Arlington. They suck!!!

I've been a loyal customer of the Ace Hardware Store at 10th and Arlington for over 30 years, but after my recent experience, I will never return. I purchased a replacement lock for my back door, which came in one of those sealed plastic packages that are nearly impossible to open without a struggle. After cutting the top off, I discovered that a lock washer was broken. When I unscrewed the screw to replace it, something clicked in the mechanism, and despite replacing the washer, the entire lock wasn't functioning correctly. I'm no locksmith, so I didn't attempt to fix it myself. Instead, I returned to the store to ask for a refund. I was told that the item wasn't returnable because of the way I cut the packaging. I was baffled – is there a right way to open those incredibly sealed packages? I was informed that there were signs indicating this policy, but your store is filled with signs for everything. Am I supposed to read each and every one of them? The supervisor consulted with the manager, who also refused the refund. I guess no refunds for damaged items folks! Geez…I understand the store is under new ownership and I could tell. If you continue to treat customers this way, I doubt you'll stay open for long. If anyone plans to shop here, I suggest reading every single sign and perhaps getting a surgeon's degree in opening plastic packaging. I am very disappointed and will never set foot in your store again.

A few employees were nice, a few not so much. They have two key cutting machines, but only use one. Even if the line for keys doesn't move. Ever! If a person has several keys to cut, or if for any reason is going to be a long while, please say something to those waiting in line for keys. It's just professional and common courtesy.

Ace YOU HAVE FAILED! Ace sells Craftsman hand tools, HOWEVER they do not honor the replacement warranty that comes with this brand. WHY??? Lowes on the other hand exchange the hand tool with NO issues. That is because Craftsman hand tools come with a lifetime warranty. It doesn't matter when or where you bought it or if you have a receipt. I will be contacting Craftsman directly and inquire why this Ace Hardware is allowed to sell Craftsman tools when they do not stand behind the warranty. A response from ownership (not the manager) would be most welcome other than the excuse that I got. "We no longer honor that warranty". Going to this Ace was a convenience as your prices are generally more than Lowes or Home Depot. Obviously I am just one person. But it all starts with one person.

Generally friendly staff so nothing against them. The reorganization project however is very disorganized. Seems like they may have opened too many cans of worms at once. This led to a green plastic bin free for all of product. Im all for improvement, but the methodology makes certain sections not shoppable. It is the end of feb 26 as I post this, so heads up: if you need plumbing or electrical, forget it. Just go somewhere else until they sort it all out.
